Owner of Calgary restaurant blames economy, and other issues for closing doors

A long-time fixture on Stephen Avenue is closing its doors, thanks in part to a faltering economy says the owner.

The fine dining restaurant The Belvedere will shut down for good on Saturday after more than 19 years in business.

Owner Clayton Morgan has been a critic of the mayor, bike lanes, and the increased minimum wage.

“It’s just the burden that’s been placed little by little by little on small business, it accumulates to a point that as much as you love what you do, as much as you enjoy going to work every day, you have to come to the realization that it’s just not worth doing,” he explained.

Morgan doesn’t know what’s next for him but he plans to stay in Calgary and seek out new opportunities.
