The City of Calgary has announced it will be closing the lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge, starting Friday.
It is expected to be closed for the next couple of weeks for flood mitigation work.
Sean Somers, with the city’s transportation department, said on Thursday that the bridge was identified as a breach point during the 2013 floods.
“What they’re actually putting in is what they call stop logs,” explained Somers.
“So they’re essentially long aluminum logs that are essentially gates with steel supports that are simply relatively cheap and cost-effective flood barriers.”
The work is expected to continue until Sept. 11.
