Changes coming to Alberta’s liquor laws

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – More changes are coming to Alberta’s liquor laws.

Effective immediately, you will be able to take that drink you ordered at the hotel bar to your room or another part of the hotel for an extra fee.

As well, bars and restaurants will be allowed to infuse alcohol with fruits, spices and other flavourings and create their own house-aged liquor.

“Alberta makes some of the best liquor in the country. But some regulations were constraining restaurants and bars from being creative and limiting Albertans’ enjoyment,” explained Finance Minister Joe Ceci. “That’s why we are bringing in common-sense changes, like being able to take your wine from the hotel bar back to your room. This is in addition to previous changes that allowed for craft beer and liquor to be sold at farmer’s markets and more open patio policies.”

Theatregoers and stage stars can now have a celebratory toast after the final curtain within the licensed area of the venue.

The province says Alberta’s liquor laws are being updated to keep pace with the evolution happening in the industry.
