RED DEER – A Calgary Flames legend is now a part of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame.
Theoren Fleury was named to the class of 2019 Sunday that includes five individuals and back-to-back Memorial Cup winners.
Fleury spent 11 seasons with the Flames and helped the team clinched its only Stanley Cup in 1989.
He also led the team in regular-season scoring six times, and five times in the playoffs.
After an incredible career that included a Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold medal, he’s continued to make a huge impact off the ice. Congratulations to @NHLFlames legend @TheoFleury14 on his induction into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame!#AHHF | #AlbertaBuilt | #NHL pic.twitter.com/6mgJpvsLKo

Fleury also represented Team Canada many times, winning gold at the 1988 World Junior Championships, 1991 Canada Cup, and 2002 Olympic Games.
Off the ice, Fleury has also helped people deal with trauma, mental health and addiction issues.
“It’s nice to be recognized, but it’s more important what you leave behind,” said Fleury. “I try and help people understand what trauma does to an individual. I try to give them hope and inspiration.”
Other inductees this year include Edmonton Oilers great Kevin Lowe, former women’s hockey coach Shirley Cameron, referee Duncan MacDougall, play-by-play announcer Bob Ridley and the 1986-87 and 87-88 Medicine Hat Tigers.
Congratulations @BobRidley_CHAT and @TheoFleury14 and thank you for being an inspiration to young hockey broadcasters and hockey players! https://t.co/qmHW6zSCIv
