Calgary Stampede reveals 2020 poster

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The poster for the 2020 Calgary Stampede has been unveiled.
The poster was created by 17-year-old Ariel Clipperton as part of the Youth Poster Competition.
“This is, honestly, a surreal feeling,” said Clipperton. “I’ve known about this for a few months and this was kind of the big reveal today and so I’m finally able to share it with all the people who knew that I’ve been a part of this. It feels really real all of a sudden.”
The poster portrays a cowboy standing inside the Calgary Stampede rodeo grounds, looking at the crowd while wearing the number 108, to mark the 108th year of the exhibition.

“I really wanted to do something that hasn’t been done before and this, sort of, behind the scenes perspective of the cowboy looking into the Grandstand had never been done before. SO when I saw the picture, it immediately drew me in and I knew that’s what I had to do,” said Clipperton, sharing her inspiration for the poster design.
The poster was unveiled at the Calgary French & International School where Clipperton has attended since pre-school. She was encouraged to enter the contest by her art teacher.
The Youth Poster Competition is already accepting applications for the 2021 poster and Clipperton encourages everyone to participate.
“In the future, it’s us as youth that’s going to take over from the people that are directing the Stampede right now so I think getting youth involved at an early stage is really important right now.”
As the winner of the poster competition, Clipperton receives a $10,000 Scholarship to help her pursue her career dreams.
“I love art but I’d like to keep fine arts as a hobby so it’s something that I can do as a past time. I still would like to do something creative like design or architecture where I can show my creative abilities.”
