CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Employees are back at work at the Pepsico plant in Calgary following an ammonia scare.

A significant leak forced employees out into the cold at the plant on 78 Ave. SE.

Calgary Fire said they were called to the plant shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Once on scene, they found significant ammonia in the atmosphere, close to 330 parts-per-million.

Battalion Chief Innes Fraser said the alarms are typically triggered at 25 parts-per-million.

Calgary Fire also attended to the employees that were stranded outside for some time, calling in transit buses to help workers.

“With Blackwoods Beverages being a 24-hour business, we are working diligently to get the business back up to operation as soon as possible,” said Fraser.

No injuries have been reported.
