Calgary Catholic School District sends out letter warning of adjustments needed due to budget cuts

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) sent out a note to parents Friday warning of adjustments needed to be made due to the impact of the 2019/2020 provincial budget.

With the CCSD facing $11 million in reduced funding, the school district says it will need to incur additional costs of roughly $6 million associated with growth and operations.

It goes on to say that the reduction in funding coming mid-year is tough on its schools.

The district says it is using every option at its disposal in order to protect classrooms.

It adds it will not be reducing current staffing levels for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

That doesn’t mean there won’t be changes for next year though as CCSD says it does expect more funding changes and will be keeping that in mind as they prepare for the following school year.

The note to parents goes on to say it will continue to make the best possible choices for the students and families of the CCSD, even if some of the realities of this year’s budget have made it challenging.
