Southeast Calgary industrial fire sends one to hospital

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — One man was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation injuries after an industrial fire in the southeast on Thursday.
At around 9:40 a.m. there were reports of a fire at an industrial building between Barlow Trail and 52 Street S.E. just south of Glenmore Trail.
Upon arrival, fire crews could see smoke filling the building.

Six workers were evacuated from the building, one man was taken to hospital by EMS.
The fire is believed to have started as a result of mechanical work that accidentally ignited insulation in the building.
As a result of the fire igniting within the walls of the building, the fire travelled up the wall and into the ceiling.

Firefighters were forced to cut areas of the metal wall and roof to reach the fire and extinguish it. Electricity to the building was shut off by ENMAX.
No other injuries were reported and the fire is considered accidental in nature.
