Calgary police said a marked police vehicle was in the area of Metis Trail and Country Hills Boulevard N.E. when officers interacted with the SUV. Details of that interaction are still not known and will form part of the ASIRT investigation.
The SUV travelled westbound on Country Hills Boulevard and came to the intersection with Metis Trail where it collided with a pickup truck.
The driver of the SUV, a man, was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene.
The driver of the truck, an off-duty police officer, was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.
The officer was on their way home after nightshift when the collision happened and it’s believed the officer didn’t know of the interaction between the patrol vehicle and the SUV.
