Sunwing flight headed to Calgary makes emergency landing in U.S.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — A Sunwing flight Calgary bound from Cancun, Mexico was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday night after there were reports of smoke in the cabin.

Flight WG596 had to be diverted to Memphis, Tennessee after it’s believed a vape pen was “discharged accidentally.”

In a statement, s spokesperson for the airline said “All passengers and crew members are safe, and there appears to be no damage to the aircraft. We are working with the local authorities to investigate this matter further and are therefore unable to confirm any other details at this time.”

No one on board was injured in the incident, and there was no damage to the aircraft.

A plane had to be dispatched from Toronto to Memphis to bring passengers back to Calgary.
