CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Calgary Food Bank is back up and running and giving out emergency hampers.
Earlier this week, the food bank closed temporarily due to concerns over COVID-19 saying “We are in the midst of implementing some new protocols to keep our staff, volunteers, and clients safe”

After cleaning the food bank and making sure volunteers are social distancing, clients can now pick up food beginning Thursday.
“Right now we’ve got a month to five weeks worth of food in the warehouse if we didn’t receive donations,” said Shawna Ogston with the Calgary Food Bank. “Calgary’s generous, they’ve been online, they’ve been donating money so we’re able to meet the demand and continue that.”
However, there are restrictions for those picking up hampers.
“We’re taking clients for the next few days specifically in half-hour increments,” said Ogston. “It’s critical that people who need food from the food bank call us first so we can assign them that window. It’s important to make this work that they appear at that time frame.”
Ogston said Calgarians continue to be extremely generous and are donating when they go out shopping.
She added the food bank is short on toilet paper and asking anyone who can to donate that.
