Humboldt Broncos memorial moved online due to COVID-19

HUMBOLDT – A memorial for the victims of the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos bus crash is moving online due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The website will launch at 2 p.m. ET/ noon CST on Monday to mark the two-year anniversary of the crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 others.
According to a statement, the original plan was to have a temporary exhibit feature “a representation of the many creative and unique memorabilia items we received in the days, weeks and months that followed the tragedy.” However, Saskatchewan’s province-wide self-isolation rules prevented that from happening.
The site will feature photos, videos and a guestbook, and will be permanently live on the City of Humboldt’s website here.
“In the midst of all the turmoil in the present world we want to make sure the lives lost and those that were changed forever two years ago are not forgotten,” Humboldt mayor Rob Muench said in a statement.
“During this time of self-isolating and practicing physical distancing, it’s important to us that people still have a place to go to reflect and remember the tragedy and the outpouring of support that our community received on a global scale.”
In addition to the website, the bells at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Humboldt will toll at 4:50 p.m. Monday, the estimated time that the crash occurred.
The bells will be streamed live on the city’s Facebook page and followed by a city-wide moment of silence.
