CALGARY (CityNews) – Call it a mother’s intuition — a handful of Calgary moms are raising the alarm online, saying they’ve been followed and asked weird questions about their very young children on recent trips to the grocery store.
Chante said she was at the Westbrook Walmart, in the southwest, when she noticed a man watching her strap her four-month-old son into his stroller.
CityNews has agreed not to show Chante’s face or disclose her last name as she fears she may be in danger from the men that she said followed her home.
“As I was getting my son out of the car, I realized he was staring a little more intensely and my mommy intuition tingled. I saw him waiting for me at the handicap parking spot, and I crossed over two parking spots to avoid him and walked into the store.”
“He kind of watched me shop a little bit. I kept watching him and he ended up running out. I saw he was on the phone talking to someone. I felt a little bit uneasy (so) I phoned my mom which is the person I always call, she told me to contact a security guard.”
Trusting her gut — and her mom — Chante asked security to escort her to her car.
“As they saw me approach with a security guard, three of the men walked away and got into their car, one man kind of lurked around a little bit.”
Chante said a description shared in two other posts is similar to one of the men she saw. CityNews reached out to those accounts but has yet to hear back.
Chante spoke with police and was told the chances of catching these men are slim unless they’re spotted in-person.
Calgary police said while they are aware of reports, there is no open investigation, at this time.
“I would hope that more people come forward and report them,” said Chante. “Make sure you’re keeping your eyes open and trust your instincts, cause they’re usually right.”
