CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A total of six homes in the city’s northwest have been damaged after a fire Monday morning.
The fire first ignited at Royal Oak Terrace NW around 2:15 a.m.
When crews arrived, they found two homes were in flames, which quickly spread to nearby homes because of the strong winds.
Batallion chief Alistair Robin said the elements were hindering efforts to battle the fire.
“Fire, due to the wind, was blowing embers across the street so the deck caught on fire on the other end of the street which also required some crews to be diverted.”
Four homes were destroyed while five others were damaged.
A total of 19 people were forced out of their houses, thankfully no injuries have been reported.
Crews also battled two other fires Sunday, one in the northeast and the other in the southeast.
One home was damaged after a fire on Falshire Drive NE while three businesses in a strip mall in Forest Lawn suffered damage after a fire broke out there around 6:00 a.m.
Investigators are still trying to find the cause of all the fires.
