Fire crews take on large grass fire east of Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Fire crews from multiple departments battled a large grass fire on the outskirts of the city Thursday.
The fire burning up land northeast of Calgary into Rockyview County in the area of Range Road 285, east of McKnight Blvd. and Stoney Tr.

Fire crews from Balzac, Langdon, Chestermere and Calgary were dispatched early Thursday afternoon.
Thursday evening, Chief Randy Smith with Rockyview Fire said the fire was mostly under control.
“Dry conditions and high winds, it’s just a recipe for this type of situation. But, crews are working hard and mopping up hot spots and protecting some structures and trailers on the south end.”
No injuries have been reported from the large fire.
At this point, it isn’t known how far-stretching the damage is.
