Feds, province invest nearly $32M for infrastructure upgrades in Alberta seniors’ homes

CALGARY – Seniors’ housing facilities in Alberta are getting some much-needed upgrades thanks to a boost from the federal and provincial governments.

The province says nearly $32 million in funding from the two governments will be going toward critical repairs at senior and family housing.

For homes in Calgary and Edmonton, this money means upgrades to ventilation, heating, and airconditioning systems as well as security and fire systems.

Housing facilities in smaller communities will get nursing call systems and roofing and accessibility upgrades.

The upgrades come as a part of the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).

The feds are contributing nearly $25.6 million with the Alberta government pitching in about $6.4 million.
