Banff issues advisory warning Bow River running high, riverbanks unsafe

BANFF — The Town of Banff has issued an advisory that the Bow River through the community is running high as a result of the current heatwave melting the mountain snowpack.

The town says riverbanks along the river are unsafe for people and pets.

In Calgary, Sandy Davis with the River Engineering Team says they don’t expect that river flow to affect our city.

“As it stands in Calgary, we may see river levels go up until Sunday but then it should ease off after that until we maybe get that hot weather again in a couple weeks,” she said.

Davis says Calgary typically won’t see flooding unless there’s a major rainfall coupled with higher river levels due to the snowpack melt.
