CALGARY — Alberta’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry says he is aware of the hardships Alberta farmers have been faced with this year.
Devin Dreeshen released a statement Wednesday evening acknowledging that the extreme dry conditions are making things incredibly tough on the province’s ranchers and farmers.
“We are working with Agriculture Financial Services Corporation, local municipalities, and commodity groups to provide producers with the supports they need to make it through the ongoing dry conditions,” Dreeshen said.
He says on Thursday, he will be urging the federal government to implement an AgriRecovery initiative as soon as possible.

“I have advised AFSC crop adjustors to complete early assessments on pastureland and standing crops to address forecasted feed shortages and promote flexibility. Our government will continue to work with them to support Alberta’s producers.
“I want all farmers and ranchers across Alberta to know that we hear you, and we will do everything we can to support you through this very challenging time.”
Most of the province is under a heat warning with temperatures expected to stay up for the rest of the week.
