Calgary covered by heat warning

CALGARY – Yet another heat warning has been issued for the city of Calgary.

Daytime highs of 29 to 32 degrees are expected for the next couple of days, prompting a warning from Environment Canada.

The weather agency says those temperatures, plus warmer-than-average overnight lows, are expected to persist through the week in several parts of southern Alberta.

People in the area should take special precautions to help protect themselves from the heat, including rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day, taking breaks from the sun, and drinking plenty of water.

And keep an eye on kids, seniors, pets, and other loved ones.

“Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness,” reads a statement from Environment Canada.

“Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated.”

Environment Canada is also forecasting the haze from the wildfire smoke to stick around for a few days yet.
