Calgary airport dropping COVID-19 temp checks

CALGARY – As travel picks up across the country and around the world, there will be some changes when it comes to how the Calgary International Airport is managing COVID-19 risk.

The airport says it’s dropping temperature checks for people going through the airport.

Senior director of terminal operations at YYC Andy Davis says even though it wasn’t a major process, it will save time.

“They’ve actually been pretty quick at how quickly they can do it. But even at 30 seconds per passenger with 10,000 people a day, it was a lot of time holding people up. Now it becomes free time,” he explained.

Davis says it will be a big difference for travellers.

YYC is also hiring for a number of positions as it tries to recover from the pandemic.

“We’re rehiring to make sure that the ratio of passengers to staff is good and we can still give a good service,” he said.

“Some of those things take time.”
