Health care top of minds for Canadians casting ballot: survey

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As the federal election nears, Canadians seem to be casting their ballot for the party they feel is committed to health care during this campaign.
A survey conducted for the Canadian Medical Association says the country’s health care system should be the top priority for federal investment at 24 per cent, ahead of the economy at 22 per cent, followed by affordable housing at 21 per cent.
Climate change and management of the pandemic round out the top five responses.

A whopping six out of 10 respondents say the political party that prioritizes the health of all Canadians will earn their vote, while 66 per cent agree reconciliation with Indigenous peoples will improve health outcomes. Supporting healthcare workers will also improve access to care and ensure quality of care, according to 87 per cent of people surveyed.
A majority of the survey’s respondents, 89 per cent, agree seniors in long-term care homes deserve better and these facilities need improvements.
