2021 Municipal Election breakdown: Ward 6

CALGARY — Part of the southwest quadrant, ward six is home to both long-standing, close-knit communities, and newer developing ones like Springbank Hill.

While community residents are happy to see, for the most part, deep ravines staying as natural as possible, there are growing pains when it comes to development.

Elio Cozzi, President of the Springbank Hill Community Association, says they are always looking for park space.

“It’s tough to get that as each developer has a park space requirement. So, you might get a handful of tiny parkettes. Our preference would be a larger programmable space, we’d love to get some tennis courts in our community.”

While Cozzi says many support the new West Calgary Ring Road, it has created headaches in the form of noise and traffic.

“If one was to apply city standards for noise levels we believe the city would require noise berms to protect the residents from the noise. The province uses a different standard, so as a result, they are telling us no noise berm is required.”

Cozzi hopes to see some better communication between the city and province on files like this with the new councillor who is elected.

Jeff Davison, who was elected back in 2017, is running for the mayor’s chair.
