New faces at City Hall: Ward 5’s Raj Dhaliwal

From growing up shooting hoops, to playing cricket in Ward 5, Raj Dhaliwal is deeply rooted in his community. He hopes to bring some change to the ward.
“Some of the problems and challenges that exist are the same ones from 25 years ago.”

Dhaliwal says many residents have felt “disconnected from council and underserved”, he hopes to change that.
Armed with a degree in International Relations and Engineering, the former Suncor Department Lead says his past work will benefit him in his new role.

“What I bring to council will be a cautioning attitude. Working in oil and gas always doing what’s best, not just for shareholders, but the environment. Having a holistic view of everything we do. That’s what we need as we reset our city.”
Dhaliwal is excited to be part of a diverse new council where they can work to make everyone feel welcome.
