Updated QR codes available again after security breach

You can now access updated vaccine record QR codes again after a security breach forced the province to shut down the system last week.
When the new QR codes were launched so they can meet national standards for travel, Alberta Health quickly received reports from a dozen people who said they were getting the vaccine records of other people.
Out of an abundance of caution, the system was shut down for a week to ensure there were no further breaches.

During a COVID-19 update on Monday, Health Minister Jason Copping said it had been fixed.
“The technical problem has since been resolved, and the updated QR code vaccine record is now available for print or download at alberta.ca/covidrecords. Protecting Albertans’ personal information is essential, and on behalf of the Government of Alberta I apologize,” he said.
There is an investigation underway to determine how this happened and to ensure it does not happen again, but Copping also added that there isn’t too much you can get off of the QR codes apart from vaccination status, name and date of birth.
“I also want to assure all Albertans that the QR code is not connected to any other health or personal information, and additional checks are now in place to prevent this from happening again. Now the investigation is still ongoing, and we will update everyone once it is completed.”
The QR codes are required to access businesses like restaurants, and the updated codes also include your middle names in order for you to travel domestically and internationally, or on rail.
