Calgary Fusion Sushi hit with work order following inspection that found mouse droppings, health concerns

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story said Fusion Sushi was closed following the inspection. CityNews has corrected the error.

A popular sushi joint along one of Calgary’s busiest stretches has been hit with a work order by Alberta Health Services (AHS) due to a number of health violations.

Following an inspection, Fusion Sushi on 17 Avenue was hit with the order late last month after the inspector came across a list of concerning items,

The most damning of all: there was evidence of rodents at the restaurants, along with an “abundance of mouse droppings.”

The order from AHS says the mouse droppings were found on storage shelves and in several locations on the floor. Fusion was also unable to produce any history of pest control reports.

Several other public health violations were reported, including food containers being stored on the floor, and raw meat being placed above ready-to-eat food in the walk-in cooler.

“Pre-portioned containers of wasabi and pickled ginger were being stored in the cupboard below the server’s station handwashing sink,” stated the order.

In order for the restaurant to continue operations, the owner will be required to go through a list of cleaning and maintenance orders.

Some of these orders include removing the mouse droppings and cleaning all surfaces contaminated by them, providing pest control inspection reports for the last three months, and ensuring all food is held in a manner that protects it from contamination.

The order from AHS is still listed as “active.”
