Calgary mobile home fire leaves one dead

A woman is dead after a fire at a southeast Calgary mobile home park.

Firefighters were called to the Mountainview Residences along 17 Avenue SE around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

Calgary Fire Battalion Chief Alistair Robin says neighbors called 911 after seeing smoke coming from one of the homes.

Robin says firefighters were able put out the fire quickly but not before significant damage was done to the mobile home.

Upon a search of the building, officials found the body of a woman in her 70’s.

A cat also died in the fire.

Robin adds a dog was rescued and is currently in the care of a neighbor.

Calgary Fire and Calgary Police continue to investigate what may have caused the fire.
