Photo radar coming to some Calgary highways, communities in July

Calgary police announced mobile photo radar will be set up on various Calgary highways next month.

They will be set up on Crowchild Trail, Glenmore Trail, Deerfoot Trail, Macleod Trail, Sarcee Trail, and Stoney Trail.

The mobile photo radar will also be in various neighborhoods. The full list can be found on the City of Calgary website.

In addition, there will be 58 intersection safety cameras (ISC) locations throughout the city.

These cameras photograph vehicles entering intersections. Police say the cameras help reduce collisions and allow for a safer driving environment.

The “speed on green” initiative uses up to 55 of those ISC locations to capture vehicles that speed through green and yellow lights. Typically, speeds in excess of 50 km per hour over the speed limit result in the driver most likely showing up to traffic court, according to the City of Calgary.
