Calgary Wranglers unveil home and away jerseys

Calgary’s newest AHL team is unveiling some new threads.

The Calgary Wranglers have unveiled their home and away jerseys for the upcoming season, bringing a “fresh” look Friday.

In a video shared to social media, the Wranglers say they’ve adopted elements from the old jersey into the new one.

“To honour the memories of the past by marrying them with the colours of the present, a carefully crafted logo that symbolizes the union between this team and its lineage,” the announcer says in the video. “To be adorned on the chest of the next generation of hockey heroes, and with their names on the back, focused on one assignment: ride for the city.”

A symbol of the horse, which resembles a side view of “Blasty,” the flaming horse used by the Calgary Flames, is seen on the left shoulder of the jerseys. The logo was used between 1988 and 2006, with it being used as the main feature of the home jersey for three seasons.

On the new jerseys, the other shoulder features the flaming “C” of the Calgary Flames.

The old jersey also had a W with a horse and a cowboy with a lasso in the middle.

This is the second iteration of the Wranglers since the original team came to Calgary with the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League (WCHL) in 1977.

The WCHL Wranglers played for 10 seasons, and have seen the likes of Flames alumni such as Mike Vernon, Dana Murzyn, and Kelly Kisio.

The home opener for the Calgary Wranglers’ inaugural season is Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. against the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Calgary’s previous AHL team, the Stockton Heat, finished second with a record of 45 wins, 16 losses, and seven overtime losses.

They secured 97 points, winning the Pacific division, and made it to the Western Conference Finals of the Calder Cup playoffs in the 2021-2022 season.

The Heat lost to the Chicago Wolves on game six.
