Albertans can now renew their driver’s licences online

The Government of Alberta says people can now use the MyAlberta eServices portal to renew their driver’s licences and ID cards.

The province says people who are interested in using the service should have a verified account, meet online renewal criteria, and have no changes to personal info.

People who have recently moved to the province, and whose driver’s licence does not have their current address, will not be able to use the service. They are still required to go to a registry, according to the website.

The province says people should receive their new licences or ID cards in the mail about 10 to 14 days after filling out and submitting the online application.

Licences will be renewed for the maximum allowable term, between one and five years, depending on the class of licence, as well as the person’s age and medical status.

“Once you receive your new driver’s licence in the mail, you must securely destroy your previous driver’s license card and the interim driver’s license. It is an offence to be in possession of more than one driver’s licence card,” the province’s website reads.
