Calgary trucker charged with importing cocaine: RCMP

By CityNews Staff

A Calgary truck driver has been charged in connection with a cross-border drug smuggling investigation.

According to the RCMP’s Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET), a commercial truck loaded with bananas arrived at the Coutts border crossing on Nov. 6.

During a secondary examination by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers, investigators report 43 kilograms of cocaine were found hidden between the fruit.

“By stopping illegal drugs at the border, we’re reducing the risk of harm to Canadians and keeping our communities safe,” said Brad Wozny, regional director general of CBSA.
