Southern Alberta snowfall warning issued

Environment and Climate Change Canada says parts of southern Alberta are under a snowfall warning, with total amounts between 10 and 20 centimetres expected to fall Wednesday and overnight.

Those areas include Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, and Waterton Lakes National Park.

It says the heaviest snow will fall along the foothills and “over areas of higher terrain.”

The weather agency says the snow may get mixed with rain.

“Surfaces such as roads may see less snow accumulate as pavement temperatures remain above zero degrees,” the warning reads.

In addition, visibility may be reduced due to the heavy snow.

For those looking to travel, the agency advises adjusting driving with the road conditions.

Snowfall in Manitoba, Calgary may see flurries

Manitoba is also expected to experience heavy snow Thursday.

The warning from the ECCC suggests another winter storm stemming from the northern U.S. will sweep across southern Manitoba on Thursday and will drop 10 to 20 cm of snow.

“The snow will persist through much of the day on Friday before finally pulling out of the province on Friday evening,” the ECCC’s warning reads.

Meanwhile, CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says Calgary is also holding on to some cold temperatures, including some flurries.

“Still a chance for some scattered weak showers or wet flurries. The potential is there for light snow tomorrow morning,” Kuss said.

“Then clearing in the afternoon as the cold front drops down to the southwest and then swings away.”

Thursday in Calgary will see a high of 6 C with “periods” of light snow and it will get sunny again on Friday and Saturday.
