Calgary Stampeders pre-season game delayed due to air quality

The Calgary Stampeders’ first pre-season game of the year is being delayed due to poor air quality in the city.

The face-off against the Edmonton Elks has been pushed 30 minutes later than scheduled after officials determined more time was needed to monitor the air quality and ensure both teams had enough time to warm up.

The game is now set to kick off at 2:30 p.m. MDT.

McMahon Stadium will open its doors to fans at the originally scheduled time of 12:30 p.m.

In a statement, the Stampeders said the decision to delay the game due to weather was made by the league, both competing teams, and the CFL Players’ Association.

Weather protocol was developed by the CFL and management council — made up of team presidents — to address in-game situations where the safety of players, officials, and fans may be affected by inclement weather, it added.
