Huge sinkhole opens up in Calgary’s southeast

After a massive sinkhole opened up Tuesday afternoon in the southeast community of Cranston, the city says an irrigation line is to blame.

That irrigation line, which runs to a nearby park, feeds a water feature and a windmill, it adds.

Area councilor Evan Spencer took to social media earlier this week to send out a photo and location details, explaining at the time, that detours were expected.

The city now says barriers will be in place for at least the next week at Cranston Boulevard and Cranston Drive and asks motorists to avoid the area is possible.
