Calgary Transit stations get more free parking spaces

Driving from Calgary Transit station to station is no longer an issue.

After Calgarians expressed frustration over a lack of free parking at LRT stations across the city, Calgary Transit has reduced the number of reserved spots and replaced them with more free parking spaces.

This comes as the city’s ridership increased to near pre-pandemic levels, and the demand for free parking increased.

Meanwhile, demand for reserved stalls has not returned, according to the city, which also led it to reduce its numbers.

“After reviewing park and ride capacity versus use, we’ve reduced the number of reserved stalls at several lots throughout the city – which means an increase in the number of free parking stalls,” said Amanda Bradley, a spokesperson with Calgary Transit.

The largest increase in numbers is Crowfoot, which now has an additional 217 free parking spaces.

“Customers will see reserved parking signs being covered up and can use those stalls for free as soon as the signs are covered,” Bradley explained.

She says the permanent reserved parking signs will be removed over the course of the spring and summer.
