Calgary firefighters battle flames in East Village warehouse

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to a fire in an abandoned southeast warehouse early Wednesday morning.

Crews were called just after 3 a.m. for reports of smoke and flames in the East Village area, near the Hilton Hotel.

The department says firefighters were able to quickly enter the building and began an “aggressive” attack.

When conditions inside the building changed, crews left the building and began to work from a defensive position, it adds.

The CFD is currently on scene working to fully extinguish the fire and begin an investigation.

Alberta Health Services says no injuries have been reported.

Calgary Transit operations have been affected and shut down at the site of the blaze, according to the CFD.

Delays have been reported along the Blue Line as a result.
