Calgary Hitmen and GM Jeff Chynoweth mutually part ways

The Calgary Hitmen and general manager Jeff Chynoweth agreed to mutually part ways Friday.

In a news release, the Western Hockey League (WHL) team vice president and governor Mike Moore thanked Chynoweth for his time with the club.

“Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation would like to thank Jeff for his six years with the Hitmen and wish him success moving forward,” he said.

Chynoweth was named general manager of the Hitmen in 2017.

Over six seasons, the team under Chynoweth missed the playoffs two times and won a single playoff round. The other two playoff seasons were missed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chynoweth has been in the front office for several clubs over his 40-year career, including the Spokane Chiefs, Medicine Hat Tigers, Brandon Wheat Kings, Lethbridge Hurricanes, and Red Deer Rebels.

He won numerous awards, including the Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as WHL Executive of the Year in 2005 with the Kootenay ICE, three WHL Championships with the ICE in 2000, 2002 and 2011, and a Memorial Cup championship in 2002 with the ICE.

Meanwhile, the Hitmen announced the current director of player personnel Garry Davidson received a promotion to director of hockey operations.

He has been with the Calgary WHL club since 2021.
