ASIRT investigating after officer shoots suspect in Forest Lawn

Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after an officer shot a suspect in Forest Lawn Saturday.

Calgary police say they were called to 10 Avenue SE and 39 Street SE around 6 a.m. for reports of a break and enter at a home.

Investigators believe a tenant living in another part of the house broke into the basement suite and began attacking those tenants with a weapon.

When officers arrived, they tried to de-escalate the situation, police say. This resulted in an officer using their taser.

Police say the situation continued to escalate, and an officer discharged their weapon.

One person was given first aid at the scene and was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.

No police officers or members of the public were hurt in the incident.

Calgary police say its Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) will be available for those in the community in need.
