Calgary Flames sign first round pick Samuel Honzek to 3-year entry-level contract

The Calgary Flames have signed its first-round draft pick, 18-year-old Samuel Honzek, to a three-year entry-level contract Wednesday.
The 6’4″ tall power forward from Slovakia was drafted 16th overall, and he tallied 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 points with the Vancouver Giants in the most recent season.

His contract is worth $950,000.
“We were happy to have selected Samuel in this year’s draft and as equally pleased today to have him signed to his entry level agreement,” said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy in a news release.
“We entered the draft looking to add skill with size to our group, and Samuel is a textbook example. He had an impressive showing at development camp, and we are excited to watch him build on that at main camp in September.”

Honzek said on Instagram that he is “honoured and happy.”

Honzek managed four points (1G, 3A) in four playoff games for the Giants.
The 195-pound forward has twice represented Slovakia at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
