Calgary police investigate after man lost balance, fell into path of CTrain

Calgary police are investigating a CTrain collision involving a pedestrian Thursday night at Franklin Station.

Just before 11 p.m., officers were called to the LRT Station on Memorial Drive SE, for reports of a man who was hit by a CTrain.

Investigators believe the pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was standing on the platform when he lost his balance and fell onto the tracks.

Several minutes later, a northbound train arrived at the station.

The man was hit by the lead car of the train and was dragged a short distance, according to police.

The pedestrian was left with serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

The train’s driver and passengers weren’t hurt in the collision.

Police say drug impairment is being investigated as a factor for the pedestrian in the collision.

Alcohol, drugs, and speed aren’t considered to be factors on the part of the driver.

Anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact police at 203-266-1234 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
