Suspects face second-degree murder charges in death of Calgary teen: police

Second-degree murder charges have been laid against a teen and a man in the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Danillo Canales Glenn, Calgary police say.

This follows the arrest of the suspects, a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, on Saturday.

While the 16-year-old cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the 18-year-old isn’t being named to “ensure the identity of the youth is protected under these provisions.”

It happened on Sept. 5 on a basketball court in the community of Copperfield.

Police say the victim was with friends when two strangers approached the group and started a fight. They then bear-sprayed and stabbed Glenn, who died of his injuries.

On the GoFundMe for the victim, it states he had just graduated high school and was getting ready to start his post-secondary schooling at SAIT.

“He was a great person with great values and will be missed by so many of his peers. He was a true friend who always held you accountable but wanted the best for everyone around him,” the page reads.

At this time, over $14,000 of the $10,000 goal has been raised to cover the funeral expenses.

Investigators expect the suspects to appear in court Monday.
