Investigators believe the suspect fired multiple rounds during the shooting in the southeast, with stray bullets striking four surrounding homes, before leaving the scene in a stolen vehicle.
Police concluded the shootings were connected and say both the offenders and victim in this incident are associated with rival organized crime groups in Calgary and the victim was targeted due to that conflict.
Given their demonstrated violence and history of court-ordered firearm prohibitions, investigators engaged the Tactical Unit to conduct the arrests of the suspects.
Arrest warrant leads to additional shooting
On Wednesday, while attempting to arrest two suspects, gunfire was exchanged between the individuals and police on Falsbridge Drive NE around 2:40 p.m.
One suspect died and a police officer was taken to hospital in stable condition.
A second person was taken into custody, and when police arrested him, they found a handgun in his possession.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating the incident.
On Thursday, officers searched the suspect’s vehicle and seized two more handguns.
