Calgary police warn public after badge stolen from vehicle

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is warning the public after a police badge was stolen from a vehicle parked at a hiking trail outside Canmore over the weekend.

Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, an off-duty Calgary police officer returned to their vehicle that was parked in the Yamnuska Trail parking lot, to find the vehicle had been broken into and a number of items were missing, including a CPS badge.

Investigators say the car prowling happened between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The badge will have regimental number #5296 engraved on it.

Anyone with information about the theft of location of the badge is asked to contact the Canmore RCMP non-emergency number at 403-678-5516.

Members of the public who are not sure of the validity of a police officer are encouraged to ask for visible identification with a photo, call 911 or CPS at 403-266-1234 to confirm the officer’s identity.
