Police say the man in his 70s was walking northbound along 47 Street crossing Memorial drive, and was then struck by a vehicle going eastbound on the same street

A man in his 70s has been killed in a hit-and-run in the southeast early Saturday morning, and Calgary police are looking for the driver.

Officers tell CityNews the incident happened at around 12:20 a.m. on Memorial Drive and 47 Street.

They say the man was walking northbound along 47 Street crossing Memorial Drive, and at the same time, an SUV was travelling eastbound along Memorial Drive approaching 47 Street, striking the man.

Investigators say the driver fled the scene, driving eastbound before abandoning their vehicle.

They found the man dead at the scene and the vehicle shortly after. The driver is still being sought.

Excessive speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.
