Flames trade forward Andrew Mangiapane to Washington for draft pick

The Calgary Flames have traded forward Andrew Mangiapane.

The team confirmed Thursday that the 28-year-old was dealt to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick.

“Today’s trade provides us with an increase in valuable draft capital and we have continued to emphasize the importance of how upcoming drafts will influence the future of our franchise,” said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy in a statement.

“Additionally, this move affords us with more salary cap and roster flexibility to make decisions after July 1st.”

Mangiapane recorded 40 points (14 goals and 26 assists) over 75 games in 2023-24.

Selected by the Flames in the sixth round (166th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Mangiapane has a total of 215 points (109 goals and 106 assists) across 417 career NHL games.

He is entering the final year of a contract and is set to make $5.8 million during 2024-25 season.

The second-round pick the Flames acquired was originally owned by the Colorado Avalanche.

Calgary currently holds two first round selections, ninth overall and 28th overall, in the 2024 NHL Draft set to kickoff on Friday.
