Calgary weekend heat expected to climb to 30s

Calgary is in for another weekend of hot weather following Labour Day long, as highs in the low 30s are expected.
Long-term forecasting shows it could be weeks before things start to really cool off.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hassell tells 660 NewsRadio it’s not the heat that’s unusual for this time of year, it’s the duration.
“To have this many days in a row, I don’t know that that’s happened for 30 C in Calgary since we’ve had data, so that’s part is quite rare,” she said.
“And just for comparison, you’re typical temperature daytime high for this time of year is 19 C, so 32 or 33 C that you’re seeing is really warm, like really warm.”
Hassell says that bursts of heat are not totally unexpected for September in Calgary, but they typically don’t last this long.
She says temperatures this high can pose risks to certain people, such as pregnant women, children, seniors, and anyone with pre-existing health conditions, so it’s best to keep an eye out for them during this time.
The forecast predicts this warm weather could last several weeks into September.
