Police are investigating after a woman was violently attacked by a stranger while she was asleep in her Lethbridge home.
Emergency crews were called to a home near Mayor Magrath Drive North and Highway 3 around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a break-in.
Lethbridge police say a woman was sleeping inside when a male suspect attacked her with a weapon before leaving through a window. The woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Officers along with a police K9 unit searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.
“The subject is unknown to the victim and at this time the incident appears to be random in nature,” reads a release from police.
Police are asking residents who live in the area and have security cameras to check the footage between midnight and 4 a.m. Anyone who was driving in the area in the early morning hours are also being asked to check their dashcam footage.
Anyone with additional information is being urged to call police at 403-328-4444.
