Man facing 13 charges after stealing copper wire from Calgary construction sites: CPS

A man is facing more than a dozen charges after being caught with copper wire that was allegedly stolen from Calgary construction sites last week.

Calgary police say they were called about copper wire being stolen from sites in the northwest community of Rockland Park around 6:55 a.m. on Oct. 11.

Investigators say a private security company was monitoring the two construction sites and called police after determining the wire was stolen.

The private company was keeping an eye on the wire with a live tracker and police were able to use it find the suspect. Officers arrested the suspect around 7:30 a.m. as he was leaving a Rona location near Nose Hill Drive and Crowchild Trail NW.

Following the arrest, police allegedly found more stolen items that they believe were from Rona and Home Depot stores. The suspect was also found to be violating a driving prohibition.

Jarod Michael Shambel, 36, is facing 13 charges including two counts of break and one count of theft under $5,000. He is set to appear in court in November.

Anyone with additional information is being urged to contact police at 403-266-1234, or CrimeStoppers anonymously.
