RCMP officer mistaken as ‘suspicious person’, prompts shelter-in-place at downtown Calgary office tower

A police officer was mistaken as a suspicious person and forced everyone inside a downtown Calgary office tower to shelter-in-place on Wednesday morning.

Calgary police (CPS)) say officers were called to Eau Claire Tower near 3 Avenue and 5 Street SW around 10 a.m. for reports of a suspicious person.

Everyone inside the building was asked to shelter-in-place out of caution.

Responding officers found the person in question who turned out to be an on-duty RCMP officer, according to police.

“The incident has since been resolved and there was no risk to public safety,” reads a statement from a CPS spokesperson.

No other details have been released.
