Calgary service rates have increased for 2025, which includes transit fares, property taxes, and recreation facilities.

The price bump is a 10-cent increase from $3.70 to $3.80 for adults over 18 for a single fare, and one dollar for a pack of tickets to $38.

Youth fares for those 13-17 are going up by five cents from $2.50 to $2.55, and 50 cents for a pack of tickets to $25.50.

Meanwhile, an adult monthly pass is going up to $118 from $115, with the fee being $112 in 2023, and the youth monthly pass will jump to $86 in September.

A senior annual transit pass, for those 65 years and older, is going up by $4.50 from $154.50 to $159 while a low-income seniors annual pass is going up by $1 to $32, a $2 increase in two years.

This follows a vote from the city council to increase fares to ensure transit revenue keeps up with operating costs and the city’s growth.

Calgary Transit says fare increases are necessary to cover increasing costs and to provide services such as being reliable, helpful, and safe.

“We know that increases impact our customers and so we make every effort to implement small changes each year,” Transit says on its website.

The City of Calgary says it is “committed” to keeping taxes and transit fares as low as possible.

Meanwhile, following budget deliberations in November, property taxes are going up by 3.6 per cent. This means an extra $8.37 for a single-family home and an additional $5.09 in waste and recycling, adding up to an additional $13.95 a month.

But that’s not all. The city’s monthly Rec Plus Pass, which includes access to all leisure centres, like those with climbing walls and water parks, went up.

Adults will see this go from $66.90 to $68.65. For seniors 65 and older, the Rec Plus Pass is rising by $2.70, going from $43.10 to $45.80, while youth will go up from $33.45 to $34.30.

The Rec Pass, which provides access to the city’s recreation centres, jumped by $1.45 from $56.60 to $58.05 per month. It went up for seniors by $2.25, from $36.40 to $38.65, and youth is up to $29 from $28.25.
