A Calgary psychologist has been arrested and charged with multiple child sex offences following an investigation by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

A Calgary psychologist is facing several child sex offences following an investigation by an internet child exploitation unit.

Forty-five-year-old Dustin Hrycun was arrested by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit on Thursday with the help of Calgary police.

He has been charged with possessing, accessing, and making available child pornography.

Hrycun was employed at Rising Sun Psychological Services where he treated youth and adult clients.

Police say his charged are related to online offences, however it’s unknown if any clients of his were potentially impacted.

“Given the suspect’s position of care and trust it is certainly concerning and we can appreciate how clients would be alarmed,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Auger with ALERT ICE.

He adds a full forensic analysis of Hrycun’s electronic devices will be conducted to explore other evidence.

The investigation into the Calgary man started in October after ICE got a tip from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.

Police say the tip alleged Hrycun shared sexual exploitation materials over the online social media app, Kik.

He was released from custody and is set to appear in court on Feb. 25, 2025.

Anyone with information about this investigation, or any child exploitation situation, is encouraged to contact local police or CrimeStoppers.
